Fall Beer Tasting #2 – Beer Reviews

Fall beer

It’s a crisp, cool Fall night in California and time for another Fall Beer Tasting! This week, we have a random selection of four November-inspired beers!

So, go get your favorite alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage, find your favorite seat, kick back, and chill with us as we do another Fall Beer Tasting!

Our first beer is…

Fall beer

BEER: Winter Welcome Ale
BREWERY: Samuel Smith’s Old Brewery – Tadcaster, Yorkshire, England – UK
ABV: 6%
MATT: 4/5
DANIELLE: 3.75/5

LOOK: Crystal clear amber/copper

SCENT: Cinnamon, cloves, sweet tree fruit, spices, bit of a bourbon edge

MOUTHFEEL/TASTE: Slightly thick mouthfeel with a nice, refreshing fruitiness to it. Spices on the back end with a little malt and bourbon.

FINAL REFLECTIONS: A great beer for the Fall. This is November in a bottle with some nice sweet fruit offset by some light hops and a great spice/bourbon finish to it. Extremely tasty fall/winter ale that should be in anyone’s fridge come the crazy holiday season. This would go great with a meal or with dessert.

Fall beer

BEER: Oktoberfest 2021 – Altbier Special
BREWERY: Federation Brewing – Oakland, CA
ABV: 6.1%
MATT: 3.75/5
DANIELLE: 3.75/5

LOOK: Very dark amber and slightly hazy

SCENT: Cinnamon, cloves, pumpkin spice, fruit

MOUTHFEEL/TASTE: Slightly thick mouthfeel, a nice tree fruit ale with some nice spice on the back end. Not as boozy as expected.

FINAL REFLECTIONS: Another good November beer — though not as boozy or malty as the last one and less complex. This one has some nice fruit on it with a nice spice finish. This is perfect for fall and winter.

BEER: Sugaree Maple Pecan Pie Specialty Ale
BREWERY: Highwater Brewing – Lodi, CA
ABV: 9.8%
MATT: 4/5
DANIELLE: 4.25/5

LOOK: Dark amber and clear

SCENT: Pecans, caramel, spice

MOUTHFEEL/TASTE: Slightly thick mouthfeel, maple and caramel sweetness offset by a malty, alcohol taste.

FINAL REFLECTIONS: This is November personified. A liquid Pecan Pie in a glass spiked with generous boozy alcohol and spices on the back end. This is a delicious November ale, perfect for anyone throwing a party and needing a little bit of a kick for their guests.

BEER: Imperial Campfire Stout
BREWERY: Highwater Brewing – Lodi, CA
ABV: 11%
MATT: 4/5
DANIELLE: 4/5

LOOK: Dark black as a stout should be

SCENT: Molasses, graham cracker, marshmallow

MOUTHFEEL/TASTE: Slightly thick mouthfeel, smoky with a liquid marshmallow/graham cracker taste to it. You can’t taste the booze which makes this one dangerous stout.

FINAL REFLECTIONS: This is a S’More in a glass.

FINAL THOUGHTS: We loved this tasting and thought that each beer had something great to offer. Every single beer we tasted was consistent with our Fall theme and we highly recommend everything we’ve mentioned tonight.
